Arrival set out to create a new generation of last-mile electric vans. As part of the HMI team, we bridged software, hardware, and user needs to design a vehicle that’s safer, more efficient, and more comfortable.

Approach

Beyond the screen, the driving interface shapes the entire experience. Control placement, behaviour, and even what we show (or don’t), directly impact the driver’s experience.

Each element was carefully considered to enhance safety, efficiency, and comfort.

Process

HOLISTIC APPROACH

Explored the product’s multiple layers, from driving to our vehicle’s impact on urban space.

FROM DESK TO ROAD

Together with our research team, we continuously studied, tested, and refined the design. We built high- and low-fidelity prototypes, interviewed drivers, and gathered quantitative and qualitative data to inform our decisions

ONE CONTROL CENTRE

A single, intuitive panel for drivers to operate the vehicle. Revealed with a quick swipe and positioned near the steering wheel for easy access, especially while driving.

ADAPTIVE CLIMATE SYSTEM

Arrival’s sensors maintain the ideal climate, allowing drivers to forget about it and stay focused on the road—all through a single, elegant control.

AUTOMATIC WIPERS

Automatically activate when rain is detected and appear prominently, allowing the driver to quickly adjust the speed.

ADVANCED DRIVING FEATURES

Integrating multiple systems and sensors to enhance driver awareness and improve safety in all surroundings

DESGINING FOR THE REAL WORLD

We explored how software and hardware react to real-world conditions through prototyping, using it as both a design tool and a bridge to collaborate with engineers, researchers, compliance teams, and stakeholders.
